The Green 55 Sale:
Sometime in the mid 90s Fred told Scott and I a frightful tale of his youth and how much he loved his electronic football set. He kept stats on the players (apparently this was common among a certain demographic). Time and again the green player in the #55 jersey was the man. So, since then, we've sent Christmas cards to Green 55, used him in Mad Libs, and we participate in his annual memorial yard sale filled with crap we've all dragged home from yard and estate sales.

Part 2 of the Green 55 Memorial Yard-n-Plant Sale should happen in late Sept.

Sue - we have plenty of those here too. There are certain neighborhoods where that's nearly all you'll see, but they're also scattered through the more fruitful areas. We do a lot of drive-bys.

SLB - thanks for the info! "Majolica" is one of those terms I have heard a lot without ever actually knowing what it really was. ("Faujolica" though is a new one!) I still think that tea set is demented looking ...

I'm so glad you go to yard sales so I don't have to. I do LOVE reading about yours! At least Seattle isn't rife with baby stuff, broken exercise equipment, and schlocky wedding gifts, which is all we have around here. Or is that just my 'hood?

The teaset is majolica. or rather, faujolica, which is recently made stuff designed to look like antique majolica. Most likely Fitz and Floyd or a similar maker.

Antique majolica is very earthy and much of it is borderline ugly. I love the stuff.

I used to have a large collection of leaf plates, all acquired at thrifts and garage sales for mere pennies. I sold them all on eBay and made enough money to compensate for the loss of the lovelies. Now people have caught on and I hardly ever see it when I am junking and when I do, it is either the faujolica or it is very badly damaged.

Some damage on the very rare pieces is okay but when a fairly ordinary plate is in ten pieces and is held together with duct tape, ummmm, no.

here's a recipe for your readers!

awful kids stuff, flour, sugar, eggs, some overpriced garbage, even more flour, yet more sugar and eggs along with some craptacular sales make for a CARBY and CRABBY day. delicious and disturbing.
