What a weird phenomenon. Where on earth do they get price scanners? I don't even really understand how it is able to tell them if something is valuable. I'm going to keep an eye out for scanners the next time I'm at a thrift store. I've never seen anyone with a scanner--probably because I wasn't looking closely at them. I held a moving sale several years ago, and was shocked at how aggressively people went through my book pile. One person even kinda scolded me, saying I could have sold the books for much more online than the $1/apiece price I was asking for.
